BEIJING, May 02, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --The development of TD-SCDMA-based mobile communications business will bring China's 3G equipment and related product makers over CNY 500 billion value, insiders were quoted as saying.
Since March this year, China's Ministry of Information Industry organized tests of experimental networks in Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Baoding and Xiamen, involving over 100 base stations and 5,000 terminals each city.
At the moment, China's companies have rolled out models of TD-SCDMA handsets, and users are able to communicate with each other in the network.
The construction of TD-SCDMA network will cost CNY 30 billion to CNY 50 billion less than that of WCDMA network. At the same time, the charge of 3G communications service will also be lower than that of 2G service, sources close to the matter said.
There are more than 400 million mobile communications service subscribers in China, and the figure accounts for about 20% of the total users across the world. By 2010, mobile phone users of the country will hit 550 million people, and the telecom business will bring in CNY 900 billion revenues.
