Four Strategies to increase traffic to your web site include 10 easy steps.

Optimize - Make your site worthy of your visitors' time and prepare the site for optimal search engine placement.
  1. Make a list of about 25 words or phrases that best describe your site. Write a 25 - 50 word description of your site. Provide these to your web development and marketing teams for use in optimizing your site and in the search engine submittal process.

  2. Attract repeat visitors with relevant and current information. Keep your site updated with current specials and products. Give stuff away - coupons, special offers, free consultations.
Advertise - As much as your budget can stand.
  1. Update your marketing and advertising materials to include your web address in all the places you would reference your phone number. Don't forget to include it in your email signature. Use stickers if you must on old sales literature but don't send, publish or email anything without your web address on it.

  2. Have your site registered with search engines, but don't rely on them as your only source for drawing traffic. Consider the option of paid positioning on major search sites. Register or exchange links with industry or regional specific sites, directories, associations, etc. Many are free and will bring targeted traffic to your site.

  3. Use traditional advertising to drive traffic to your site-direct mail, print ads, radio and TV.
Network - Face to face still works but use the net to broaden the field.
  1. Use opt-in e-news or announcements programs.

  2. Use "refer a friend" "send this page" links on your site.

  3. Participate in newsgroups relevant to your industry - prove your expertise in a subject area and customers will call. Don't forget to include your web address in your email signature. Refrain from blatant sales pitches!

  4. Affiliate Programs - Set up an affiliate program that pays other sites to drive traffic to your site.
Analyse.
  1. Track traffic and sales statistics so you know what's working. Then go back to step one and begin tweaking. Build on your successes. Learn from your failures.
